Privacy policy

Effective date: November 8, 2026

The short version

Who we are

Speakeeper is operated by Hausbound, LLC, 1300 Rt 17 North Ste 1, Ramsey, NJ 07446. You can reach us by email at support@speakeeper.com or by phone at (201) 785-7309. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Hausbound, LLC.

Speakeeper is made for families with young children, so it is directed in part to children under 13. The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies to it, and this policy is our notice to parents under that law.

This website

This website has no analytics, no ads and no third-party tracking code. Reading its pages, such as this policy, does not set any cookie and does not ask for any information about you or your child.

Parents can sign in to the parent area of this website with email (we send a sign-in link), Sign in with Apple or Google sign-in. Signing in sets one cookie that keeps you signed in. It is strictly necessary, it is set only for a signed-in adult, and it is removed when you sign out. During an Apple or Google sign-in, a second cookie that protects the sign-in is set for a few minutes. Children and family adults never sign in, so these cookies are never set for them.

Like any website, our hosting provider receives the technical details your browser sends to load a page, such as your IP address. We do not use them to identify you. They are kept for up to 30 days.

Who will use Speakeeper

What we will collect from children

Only a parent can add a child, and we collect the minimum needed for the games to work:

We will never ask for a child's last name, birth date, photo, school, location or contacts, and the child profile has no place to enter them.

Speakeeper does not use speech recognition. We will not score, analyze or identify anyone's voice. A child's recording can pick up voices nearby; any parent can delete any recording.

What we will collect from adults

From parents:

From family adults a parent invites:

From gift givers: an email address, used only to send the gift code.

If we offer printed books and a parent orders one: the shipping address.

You can create your family account, invite the other parent and invite family adults without giving consent for a child. We ask for it once, when you add your first child, because a child's profile is the first information about a child we keep. Nothing about a child is saved before a parent has read this notice and agreed.

How you give consent: in the app or the parent area, after reading this notice, you tap to agree from your own signed-in parent login with a confirmed email address. About 24 hours later we email you to confirm it. That email says what we keep about your child and who can hear it, and it has a link you can use to withdraw your consent at any time. If the email cannot reach you, the parent area asks you to check your address and lets you send it again.

Sharing outside your family needs a second step. Your child's recordings and information stay inside your family's account: only the parents and the family adults you invite can see or hear them in the app. If you choose to put your child's voice or picture on something that works outside your family (a printed household label, the family's Voice Book link or a printed book), we first ask for a card check: a charge of 50 cents through our payment processor, Stripe, refunded right away, followed by an email that names the charge, what you agreed to and how to withdraw. Without it, those choices stay locked and we tell you why.

A second parent who joins the family reads this notice and accepts it before they can see any child's information.

If we make a material change to this notice, recording stays off for children until a parent reviews the new version and agrees again.

You can withdraw consent at any time in the parent area or with the link in the confirmation email. Your children stop recording at once. If no other parent's consent remains, we delete your children's profiles right away and their recordings within 30 days.

The legal basis for children's information: everything a child creates in Speakeeper, or that we collect from a child, is kept only with a parent's consent under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The one exception is the error reports described below, which carry no identifier of any kind and are used only to keep the service working, as COPPA allows for the internal operations of a service. Speakeeper is offered only in the United States, so we do not rely on the European data protection law (GDPR).

Before we save any adult's voice, that adult agrees for themselves, in their own language. A family adult reads a short notice in their own language, or listens to it read aloud, and taps one button to agree; on a shared family tablet, a parent also confirms that the adult was there and agreed. A parent who records agrees in the parent area.

The notice tells them that we record only when they press the microphone, that recordings are kept on our server in the United States, who can hear them, and that a parent can download recordings and share copies. An adult can stop at any time, from the "Mi voz" button or through a parent, and can choose to have their recordings deleted. Copies a parent already downloaded or shared are outside our control and cannot be deleted by us.

How we will use information

We will never sell your family's information, never show ads, never build advertising profiles and never use anyone's voice to train computer programs.

Who can hear your family's recordings

Inside the app, only your family can hear your recordings: the parents, the children and the family adults you invite. The family adults you invite can hear your child's practice tries and the English words your child teaches them.

A parent can also choose to put recordings on things that work by link or code: printed household labels, the family's Voice Book link and printed books with QR codes. Anyone who holds one of those links or printed codes can hear the recordings on it. A child's practice tries are never included, and a child's English words or avatar only if a parent turns that on after the card check described above. A parent can turn off any link at any time.

A parent can download the family's recordings and share copies, for example on WhatsApp. Copies that were downloaded or shared are outside our control.

Our staff can reach a recording only when a parent asks for help, and every such access is logged.

Speakeeper will have no chat, no messaging and no way for anyone outside your family to contact you or your child.

No ads and no tracking

There will be no ads in Speakeeper. The app and this website contain no third-party advertising, analytics or tracking code.

If the app or one of our web pages hits an error, it sends us a short report so we can fix it. The report carries no identifier of any kind: it has the error's name, a shortened message with anything that looks like an email address or a long number removed, the page type, the app version and the day. It never includes cookies, your IP address, your device type or an account. We use these reports only to keep Speakeeper working, and we delete them after 90 days.

Companies that help us run Speakeeper

We will use a small number of service providers. Each receives only the information it needs to do its job for us. None of them receives your family's recordings except the hosting and storage providers that keep and deliver them for us.

We disclose information only when the law requires it. If Speakeeper is sold, we will tell parents first and give them the chance to delete their family's information, and any buyer must keep it under this policy. If Speakeeper closes, we delete all family information.

How long we keep information

Nothing about your family is kept forever. Information ends when the family is deleted, under the inactivity rule below, or under the Voice Book rule.

Deleting your family's information

After a family is deleted, no link of that family plays anything within 1 minute, and the family's information is erased within 30 days. We email you the date the backup copies expire. A subscription bought on our website is canceled for you; we tell you how to cancel one bought through the App Store or Google Play.

Your rights as a parent

You can also ask us to do any of these by email, mail or phone (see Contact us below). To protect your family, we confirm that a request comes from a parent: a parent can make it while signed in to the app, or reply from the email address on the family account. For a request by mail or phone, we confirm it by email to that address.

We will not ask a child for more information than a game needs, and a child never has to give information to play.

How we will protect information

Recordings will be kept in private storage in the United States, encrypted at rest, with no public web addresses. Every time a recording plays, our server checks that the person asking is allowed to hear it. Private links use long random codes that a parent can turn off. We will keep a written information security program.

United States only

Speakeeper will be offered only in the United States, and your family's information will be stored in the United States.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is material, parents will see it in the app, and children cannot record until a parent has reviewed it. If the notice adults agree to before they are recorded changes, each adult is asked again before their next recording.
